Hannah Kate-One Month Old!

The first few days of her life, our NICU friends referred to her as a "rockstar." Since then, she has been called persnickety, feisty, a superstar, and super cute! I think all of those things are true! Her doctor for the past two weeks always commented on her "stylin' bed." We may wish later in her life that she wasn't quite so feisty, but for now we are thankful that God blessed us with a feisty baby who has done so well. We know that she is a great blessing from God and that He has answered so many people's prayers by blessing us with her and her with good health.

Things Hannah Kate does not love:
The pink donut pillow.....she gives everyone the evil eye when she is stuck in the pink donut.
Bath time....we hate it too....It's very traumatic. Hopefully, that will get better soon!
Having IV tape pulled off of her....who can blame her?!
Her feet/arms being confined....she also gives the evil eye for this AND works until she can get her feet/arms free (and she almost always gets one free).
Her feeding tube....she likes to pull on it any chance you get. She is especially talented at pulling the tape holding the feeding tube off of her face. Yesterday when we arrived, her hand was taped to her face because she had pulled it off halfway and got stuck. It was pretty funny (wish I'd gotten a picture of that!).

Things I love about Hannah Kate:
EVERYTHING! I mean, really....I don't know how I am supposed to narrow this down!
Her hands and feet.....her feet are getting plumper and she has her daddy's big toes (not all of the toes, just the big toes!).....her fingers are super long and skinny and she has a very TIGHT grip!
Her eyes...they are super dark and we can't really even tell what color they are because they look so dark. When she is awake, she is very awake and loves to look around at everything. We like to think that she is looking for us, but Nurse Michelle said she can only see shadows (way to burst our bubble!).
How cuddly she is.....when we get to do "Kangaroo Care" with her, she cuddles all up on our chests and sleeps so well. It is the best feeling ever. Sunday night she had her foot almost under her chin. Wesley took a picture on his phone and said she is going to be a ventriloquist when she grows up. I think he meant contortionist! She also looks incredibly cuddly when she is on her belly. I wish we were in a more photographic environment! I could take pictures of her all day like that!
Her head and hair....she has/had the perfect head shape!...until Sunday night when I noticed that it's not so perfect (she likes to turn her head to the side too much!), but we are working on that! She has just the right amount of hair! Wesley really wants it to be red and everyone else says it looks red, but it's not-at least not yet. It's the same color as mine-which is about the only thing that she has that is like me!
She looks like her daddy...we didn't realize it until she was a couple of days old. Everyone was commenting on how much she looks like him. They were right. She also makes a face that is just like a face he makes. It makes me laugh every time. I call it the "Daddy Face." We got a picture of her making the face and then him making the face. Even Nurse Cindy noticed it-when she first saw it, she said she thought, "I've seen that face on an adult!"
Her smile...we are 100% positive that she is smiling. What else could it be? She only does it occasionally, but it makes us smile too (and we got it on video).
Seeing Wesley with her....I knew he would be great with a baby, but seeing him in action makes me so happy. He makes faces at her (because she can see his shadow!) and talks to her in the sweetest voice. He is WAY better at dressing her than me. He coordinates her outfit with her bedding-I am impressed!

One month is a big milestone for us!
Hannah Kate is off of all oxygen and the only tube going in her is her feeding tube. She receives breast milk every three hours through the feeding tube and the amount increases (usually about 1 ml/1cc) everyday. She is weighed every night-last night she weighed 1420 grams or 3 pounds 2 ounces. She is at 32 weeks gestation and the 28th day of life! She "passed" her eye exam yesterday! I told my mom she could read the big E on the eye chart! :) It's not really a pass or fail thing, they check her eyes every two weeks and this was the first time for them to be checked. Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) is a danger for babies who are born before a certain gestation.....this is why Stevie Wonder is blind. She did the best she could do on the exam, so yay, Hannah Kate! She is also remembering to breathe a lot better! This is a big plus! She does dip down sometimes, but she usually recovers on her own (I have to type this in a whisper, though, because she usually stops breathing when we brag on her like this!).

Thank you to everyone for checking on us, visiting, sending items, etc. We will forever be grateful to our church family for your prayers for all of us during this time!

This is such a boring post with only one picture, I know....I'm sorry! I'll have to add pictures later!
